We purchased the property (13.75 acres) in September 2012.  The property has a gentle slope to the South (15 to 20 degrees).  This will give us good drainage when it rains.  The soil is typical for the area - Red Georgia Clay.  This is like the soil in regions of France where they grow the same variety of grapes.  We cleared almost 10 acres of trees, removed the stumps, and planted our first two acres of the vineyard.  Doesn't it look Beautiful!

We planted about 1800 vines in the Spring of 2013, however, we lost about half of them that Winter.  We hit Zero degrees four times during the Winter months.  Since the vines were young, they hadn't developed a good root system yet.  In addition to the harsh winter, we had a Spring freeze after many of the Chardonnay had started to bud.  We lost almost all of those, too.  We will be replanting our Cabernet Sauvignon in 2015, and our Chardonnay in 2016.
